A neo-classical spectacle for Il Divo

If you called Il Divo a classical boy band, you’d almost have it—but not quite. That’s because there’s nothing boyish about these young men, from their slick haircuts to their chicly tailored suits. Everything about the group is styled to suggest a kind of pan- European sophistication; think Josh Groban with sex appeal, Andrea Bocceli with a more populist touch.

Their 2010 tour represented a major change of pace for key members of Il Divo’s production team. Set and lighting designer Mark Cunniffe counts David Bowie among his clients and Chris Pyne has toured extensively with Australian dance-pop diva Kylie Minogue. But, together, they have created a sleek presentation which shows off the quartet to its advantage and allows the fans to experience the fantasy romance they so clearly crave.
